When they say that NCOV 19 affects everybody, that’s not an understatement. If you live alone and only have to look out for yourself, great! Stay safe and continue to practice proper hygiene and social distancing. If you have a family however, things are not as simple, and you have to work as a family to stay healthy and safe. Here are some practical tips to prepare your family for NCOV19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the following:

Prepare your family for NCOV19 by discussing it with them.

Practice proper Hygiene and Sanitation

Everyone’s life is disrupted by the virus – teenagers, kids, old people, you – everyone. So you have to involve your entire family and explain to them what’s happening. This is not an extended vacation; No you can’t see your friends; Dating is out of the question; yes the malls are closed, etc… They have to understand that this is a serious situation and it falls upon everyone present to see to proper hygiene, sanitation and regular disinfection, to help ensure that the virus does not enter your home. They also have to understand why only one person is allowed outside to forage for food and supplies. Stepping out is not a chance for freedom, but a chance to be exposed which should be taken seriously. Check out how to properly come home by clicking here.

PLAN FOR THE VULNERABLE.

We know that NCOV19 is far more dangerous to those who are vulnerable to the virus. So to prepare your family for NCOV19, be particular about the following people:

  • Older adults (65 and above)
  • Individuals with chronic medical conditions.
    • People with asthma and other chronic lung diseases
    • People with serious heart conditions
    • People with compromised immune systems such as those undergoing chemotherapy or any similar treatment, and those who are HIV Positive.
    • People with diabetes, undergoing dialysis, and even those who are severely obese.
    • People with liver disease – yes, this is not the time to go binge drinking.

These are the people that you most have to protect and keep safe, so special care must be done to ensure that they are not exposed. These people are also most likely on maintenance medicines so you should stock up on them.

The CDC recommends that, even at home, you limit physical contact with these people (This includes limiting the people who interact or physically touch them). Everyone who does not have to interact with them should maintain social distancing.

GET TO KNOW THE NEIGHBORS

Who are the People in your Neighborhood?

We don’t mean that you should throw a party. Most communities – especially if you live in a subdivision or a condominium – have social media groups. Prepare your family for NOV19 by staying active and staying in touch with these groups for news and local information. For example, you can avoid the more “Crowded” groceries by finding out which smaller groceries and meat shops are still open. This is also important since aid, instructions and relief efforts from the government are being distributed on a Baranggay (Community) level. So knowing what’s up, what’s happening, and even if the virus has entered into your community is important.

Be careful though not to fall for fake news. Verify the information that reaches you.
