Safety First:

  • Always work in well ventilated areas – bring indoor items outside if you have to.
  • Wear gloves and a dust rated mask at all times.
  • Avoid directly inhaling rust dust or any of the fumes that the chemicals in this video produce. Seek medical attention immediately if you feel ill after.·

How to Paint Rusted Metal – What you have to do:

  • Scrape the area with the steel brush to get rid of rust flakes
    • NEVER just paint over a rusted surface. Rust will continue to grow underneath the paint resulting in more damage, or the paint will chip off with the rust.
  • Then clean the area with rough sandpaper to remove fine rust dust if necessary.
  • Treat the corroded metal surface with Davies 200-X Greco Rust Converter by applying it liberally by brush. Allow it to dry then rinse by wiping the surface with a cloth soaked in Lacquer thinner.
  • If the metal is not rusted and is new, we recommend that you treat the metal surface with Davies 900 Wash Primer and allow this to dry completely.
  • Apply the primer no more than 8 hours after cleaning the surface.
  • Like paint, Primer may contain suspended solids within it so you need to stir the contents of the can thoroughly.
  • Ally one (1) coat of Davies Anti-Corrosive Primer and allow this to dry completely.
  • After the primer has dried, apply two (2) coats of Davie Gloss-it Quick Dry Enamel or DV Aqua Gloss-it by brush. Allow between 6 to 8 hours between coats for Davies Gloss-it and 2 hours drying between coats for DV Aqua Gloss it.
  • Finished.
