How prepared are we as motorists in tackling being stranded in our cars during flash floods? From the recent news coverage of such motorists, the answer sadly is not very. Many were actually caught flat footed in the recent habagat inundation and this made me think how do we prepare ourselves for such eventualities?

The most obvious is of course just to stay home and not drive during such heavy rains. For times when staying home is not an option, what then? I have made a short list of my must have items during inclement weather:

* weatherproof led flashlight

* poncho/rain gear (preferably reflectorized)

* gum boots

* EWD

* towcables

* drinking water

* foil sealed ready to eat food

* empty plastic bags/bottles (in case you have to you do your number one, hopefully that’s all you need to do)

The items above would at least give you enough time to wait for the flooding to subside, for the rescue teams to reach you or the option of leaving your vehicle for safer grounds. Drive safe!
