Carpets are textile coverings that usually consists of a wool, nylon, polyester, acrylic or thermoplastic polymer that are wound into fibers and mounted on a backing. And, they’re technically Tiles. And, strictly speaking, a carpet is a floor covering that goes wall-to-wall. While, a rug, is a smaller construct that may not have a backing, that covers a smaller area on the floor.

the fabric layer of a carpet. “Plucked” animal hides formed the threads assembled to make the Piles.The French called it “Carpire” which means a “Heavily Decorated cloth.” But in the mid-14th century, that also referred to tablecloths and bedsheets. But it wasn’t until the 15th century that Carpet referred exclusively to floor coverings. It was at the same time that carpet became synonymous with the Scandinavian “rugga” which would evolve into “rug.”

Carpets have a rich history throughout almost all cultures and civilizations to develop. However, traced back to the 5th or 4th century BC, the Pazyryk carpet excavated in Northern Iran is the earliest recorded use of a “pile” or carpet. But, this was most likely a burial shroud.
