While most Filipino homes prefer corrugated sheet metal roofs for their practicality, more and more Filipino homes are starting to use the roofing preferred by our former Spanish colonists – terracotta tiles.

These clay-based, kiln baked ceramics are known for their reddish, pink, yellow or orange colors. While not exactly watertight, the kiln bake reduces their porousness. However for complete water-tightness, a glaze coating is recommended.

While relatively easy to repair and replace, clay is quite prone to breakage.
